What was your first position/job in the A/E/C Industry? I worked as a nanny for the manager of an electric supply house. He asked me to come work for him because he needed someone he could trust, and said he would teach me all he could about the industry.

Why the A/E/C Industry? Initially, I knew nothing about the trade and was nervous going into it. But once I was in the industry, I liked it quite a bit. I appreciate that it is a routine within a non-routine. The same procedures are used but the jobs are so different that there is always something new.

Advice/Keys to Success: Don’t be afraid. Have “thick skin” and hang in there at least a year. The first year in the industry can be challenging. There is a lot of change, learning and adjustment, but over time you will find your way while growing your skills, knowledge and worth. And one day you will have an epiphany: “Ta-da!! I get it!”

If you had to choose one word to explain why you do what you do, which one most suits you? And why? Challenge. You’re always learning something new every day and you’re always solving some sort of issue. Both are very rewarding.

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
