2020 Women in Construction: Imelda Barnhurst, Associate at Gienapp Architects

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? My greatest achievement of 2019 was becoming an associate at Gienapp Architects. I am so excited to broaden my role at this company and continue to deliver creative, efficient design solutions to our clients. Having worked at Gienapp Architects for 10 years now, I have been able to see our company grow and expand in exciting new directions. I have enjoyed the learning and growth I’ve been able to experience as part of this capable and qualified team and look forward to our next steps in 2020. 

What trends are you seeing in your field this year? In 2020, we are seeing the pace of construction continue to grow. As new innovations in technology assist in developing adaptable design and increasing the efficiency of the construction process, the architectural industry is rising to meet the challenge. We are seeing a greater emphasis on sustainable design and green construction methods. Of particular interest is an increased emphasis on innovative re-use of existing spaces—a development that proves creative and efficient design solutions are essential to the success of the industry going forward.
