Canton, MA In 1993, Rich Whittington, Tim Porter and Bart O’Brien launched a custom homebuilding company that has gained national and regional accolades. During the last 30 years, they have built more than 1,100 homes in 22 cities and towns in Greater Boston and the South Shore.

In the process, Whitman Homes has won more than 45 awards from the National Association of Home Builders, the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB), the National Builders Advisory Council and Guild Quality. Reflecting the diversity of their experience, the awards have been for home design, interior model merchandising, energy efficiency and sales and marketing.

At the 2023 annual PRISM Awards, sponsored by BRAGB, Whitman Homes won a Gold Award for “Best Living Area Private Residence – Primary Bath;” and Silver Awards for “Best Living Area Private Residence – Kitchen,” and “Best Design – Attached Town Home” for a custom home at The Pinehllls.

In 2000, Whitman Homes was one of the three original builders at The Pinehills in Plymouth, a national award-winning 3,060-acre community in which they have built more than 400 homes in 12 different neighborhoods.

Other communities featuring Whitman Homes includes Redbrook in Plymouth, Bay Club in Mattapoisett, Roscommon in Walpole, Glendale Village in Needham, Harmony Farms and Cornwallis Estates in Franklin, Steeple Chase in Foxborough, The Preserve in Stoughton and the Residences at Whiting Pond in North Attleboro.

“From the beginning in 1993, we knew we wanted to provide a unique blend of architectural and home building expertise with superior customer service that would make buying a Whitman home a stress-free and gratifying experience. Having Bart O’Brien, an architect and principal at Whitman Homes, designing homes that reflect our client’s lifestyle, while integrating the efficiencies of technology available to the homebuilding industry, proved to be a winning recipe. In addition, Vice President and Principal Tim Porter and our team of 20 dedicated professionals work together to offer the best in sales and marketing, model home merchandising, a vast library of exceptional award-winning home designs and neighborhood designs, providing an exceptional advantage for our homebuyers,” said president Rich Whittington.

In addition to their industry affiliations with the National Association of Home Builders and the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston, the company is also an active member of the South Shore Realtors Association, the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, and ISI Evercore National Surveying Member.
