Viking Construction serving as general contractor for $4 million project
Renovation of the 1960s-era Quintard Manor senior housing, has official begun, with Viking Construction serving as general contractor for the $4 million project. Each of the 60 one-bedroom apartments in the six-story building, located at 18 Quintard Terrace, will be upgraded, refreshed, and made more energy-efficient. All building mechanicals will be updated, and all windows will be replaced. Additionally, improvements will be made to sidewalks, landscaping, and parking.
The kitchen and baths in each apartment will be fully redone with new counters, flooring, fixtures and appliances, and six of the apartments will become fully handicapped accessible. Viking will begin working on vacant apartments first, which will become the new homes of current residents. The final apartments will be available for new tenants at the completion of the project, in early 2015.
The building is owned by Charter Oak Communities (COC), formerly the Stamford Housing Authority, which provides attractive, affordable public-assisted homes. The COC works to replace aged, unsafe (and sometimes blighted) public housing with more appealing and welcoming communities.
