Tweedy, Browne Company LLC has leased a 24,421 s/f suite at Metro Center

Relocating its headquarters from 350 Park Ave. in Manhattan, 92-year-old investment firm Tweedy, Browne Company LLC has leased a 24,421 s/f suite at Metro Center, adjacent to the Stamford Transportation Center Jeffrey Newman, executive vice president of Malkin Properties, is the marketing and management agent for the building. Tweedy, Browne will take occupancy in early 2013 for a ten-year term. Malkin Construction is building out the space. Executive managing director Brian Goldman brokered the deal on behalf of Tweedy, Browne, along with associate director Daniel Hassett, both from the New York City office of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank. According to Goldman, Metro Center was chosen, "for its advantageous location, efficient floor plate and its standing as a well-run, first-rate building. Tweedy Browne found the property to be an excellent compliment to its corporate culture, and thereby an ideal destination for its relocation from Manhattan." Tweedy, Browne was first established in 1920 as a dealer in closely held and inactively traded securities, and has evolved over time into the venerable asset management firm that it is today, handling over $14 billion for individuals, institutions, partnerships, off-shore funds and mutual funds. Tweedy, Browne is owned by its four managing directors, William Browne, Thomas Shrager, John Spears and Robert Wyckoff, Jr.; certain other employees of Tweedy, Browne; and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. (AMG), which owns a majority interest in Tweedy, Browne. "Metro Center's high-quality infrastructure, top-flight amenities and hands-on management services are viable assets for financial firms like Tweedy, Browne," said Newman. "The Stamford Transportation Center submarket is a vital, flourishing hub of business activity where successful businesses can effectively headquarter their operations." Newman represented the landlord in this transaction, along with senior leasing associate Kimberly Zaccagnino and leasing associate Tara Long. Attorneys involved in the transaction included Maureen R. Healy of Albanese and Albanese LLP for the tenant, and David Bleckner and Ian Lester of David Bleckner, P.C. for the landlord.
