Turner Construction breaks ground on two new Houston Independent School District campuses
Turner Construction broke ground on two new Houston Independent School District campuses, each funded under the 2007 HISD Bond Program. Construction of the flagship Carnegie Vanguard High School began on May 19th, and June 1st on the Lockhart Turner Elementary School consolidation.
Once completed, the new 98,000 s/f Carnegie Vanguard High School will serve 600 gifted and talented students in grades 9 through 12.
Lockhart Turner Elementary School is an 84,500 s/f replacement school serving 750 early childhood through fifth grade students
Carnegie is currently the only high school in the HISD Vanguard program exclusively dedicated to students gifted and talented in academics. The new school, located at 1501 Taft, sits on the site of the former Carnegie Elementary facility originally built in 1963. The office of RdlR Architects provided design services for the project which is scheduled for completion in July 2012.
The Lockhart project consolidates students from both Lockhart and Turner Elementary Schools into one new state-of-the-art facility located at 3200 Rosedale, site of the former Turner Elementary. The Houston office of HarrisonKornberg Architects provided design services for the project which is scheduled for completion in April 2012.
Both projects are seeking LEED certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.
According to Joe Glowacki, vice president and general manager of Turner's Houston office, "Turner appreciates the opportunity to be a part of these exciting projects which bring dynamic new learning environments to these students."
