Tsoi/Kobus & Associates retained to design new South Street Power Station - redevelopment efforts led by CV Properties, LLC

Tsoi/Kobus & Associates (TK&A) has recently been selected to design a major project. TK&A will design academic offices and nursing education facilities within the landmark South Street Power Station. The redevelopment effort is led by CV Properties, LLC. The new building - a focal point of the city's revitalized Jewelry District - will be designed within the Power Station's preserved shell. Approximately 120,000 s/f will be used by Brown University for administrative offices, while another 120,000 s/f will become a Nursing Education Center for Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island. The Power Station was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2006. The project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and a 2016 completion date is anticipated. TK&A is teamed with local architect Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels for the project and has brought RCG Architects on board to assist with the nursing education programming. "We are excited to begin work on this important project, which represents a major turning point for a long neglected section of Providence," says Rick Kobus, senior principal at TK&A. "The opportunity to preserve a key piece of architectural history while bringing new life to this neighborhood is particularly gratifying." TK&A has been recognized by Architectural Record magazine as one of the country's "Best Managed Firms" by Engineering News-Record as one of the top 500 design firms, and by Architecture magazine as one of the "Top 50 Global Giants." TK&A is one of the nation's leading architecture, planning, and interior design firms for science and technology, college and university, healthcare, and commercial real estate projects. The firm is known for creating environments that advance the discovery of new knowledge and for award-winning designs that combine cutting-edge technology with compassion and creativity.
