TRO Jung|Brannen wins BSA Sustainability Design Award

TRO Jung|Brannen has been honored with a Sustainability Design Award by the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) for the firm's work on New England Biolabs. "We are thrilled that our work for New England Biolabs has been recognized as an inspiring example of corporate sustainability by our peers," said Robert Hoye, CEO of TRO Jung|Brannen. "We have a long history of incorporating high-performance sustainability criteria into every project we design. " BSA jurors' comments: "This design of a 208,000 s/f biotech facility in a rural setting incorporates new construction and renovations, which preserved the existing natural setting and historic structures. The new building flows from three to two stories, following the site's sloping topography. An urban construction technique was used to save two mature copper beech trees at the site's center. We were particularly impressed with the on-site sewage digester: a solar aquatic waste-water treatment system in a glass greenhouse that acts as a 'living machine.' The project also includes a high-performance curtainwall, a heat-deflecting roof, extensive daylighting, high-efficiency boilers and heat-recovery units, and a manmade wetland that serves both as a retention pond and a home to birds and wildlife." Designed by TRO Jung|Brannen (Boston) with project team members: Weston Williamson (design competition winner, London); D.F. Trees & Associates (owners rep-programming, Hamilton, Mass.); Chiofaro Co. (owners rep-construction, Boston); John Moriarty & Associates (construction manager/construction, Winchester, Mass.); AHA Consulting Engineers (M/E/P/FP, Lexington, Mass.); McNamara/Salvia (structural engineering, Boston); McPhail Associates Inc. (geo tech engineering, Cambridge, Mass.); Meridian Engineering Inc. (civil engineering, Danvers, Mass.); Ecological Engineering Group (waste water treatment facility, Weston, Mass.) Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
