TG Gallagher named design-build mechanical contractor for the 165,000 s/f dormitory at UMass of Massachusetts Lowell
TG Gallagher has begun work on the Marginal St. site at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell). TG Gallagher will provide HVAC and plumbing services for the new 165,000 s/f student residence building.
TG Gallagher is collaborating with general contractor Lee Kennedy Co Inc. (LKCo.) and Neshamkin French Architects, Inc. on the design-build project, which will provide additional housing for 510 students as the school transitions to a resident-based university.
"TG Gallagher provided valuable insight during the project's early design, helping to pave the way for a successful construction phase," said LKCo.'s president and CEO Lee Michael Kennedy. "We have relied on TG Gallagher's expertise and collaborative approach often, and are glad to have their contributions to the UMass Lowell team."
The new six-story apartment building will house UMass Lowell's only on-campus suites, featuring either two or three double-occupancy bedrooms, a kitchen, a common area, and one or two fully-equipped bathrooms. The residences also include parking, a fitness area and locker rooms, laundry machines, and conference rooms to facilitate group interaction.
"As UMass Lowell's enrollment continues to climb, the University is committed to providing comfortable and modern residential facilities for its students," said Brian Potter, president of
TG Gallagher. "We are honored to be part of the design-build team for the University Suites project. Working together from the very beginning allows the design-build team to efficiently plan, execute and deliver the project on time."
Following an aggressive 15-month schedule, the new building is expected to be completed in August 2013, in time for the University's fall semester.
