Svigals + Partners volunteers refresh Camp Mountain Laurel

North Haven, CT A crew of more than 30 volunteers from the architecture firm Svigals + Partners is helping prepare campers for a post-pandemic summer by making improvements at Camp Mountain Laurel, where summer day camp activities organized by Hamden/North Haven YMCA’s will soon commence.

This year’s team is the largest of Svigals + Partners’ two-year history of making enhancements at the 20-acre camp. As well, more than a dozen volunteers with Babbidge Construction have joined the team’s effort. In sprucing up the property, the volunteers are tackling painting, power-washing, light landscaping and gardening, and more. The designers also are creating some new features for the site, including colorful game tables and a new rock garden at the entrance, adding to the camp’s offerings for kids of all abilities aged 3 to 15, and ensuring safe, fun and exciting experiences.

“Building on the safety and success we experienced last year at the height of Covid, we are thrilled to reopen the camp for summer 2021,” said Erin Kelly, interim director of Hamden/North Haven YMCA. “We’re enormously grateful for the volunteer work that Svigals + Partners and Babbidge Construction are contributing to expand our capacity. Their efforts will ensure that each of our campers will enjoy all the great fun our camp offers in safe and welcoming environments, indoors and out.”
