Sunny Border Nurseries reaches 300,000 s/f of pre-planted modules
According to Sunny Border Nurseries, Inc., a new benchmark in sustainability was reached recently with its 50th GreenGrid green roof project and nearly 300,000 s/f of pre-planted modules.
For the past four years, Sunny Border Nurseries, Inc. and Weston Solutions have partnered together to create environmental, financial and aesthetic benefits through sustainable green roof construction. "Reduced heat island effect, stormwater management, carbon sequestration, habitat restoration, reduced energy consumption and improved living conditions are just a few of the advantages of the GreenGrid modular green roof system," said Jared Markham, project manager with Weston Solutions.
Many cities are now encouraging developers to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff that follows a major rain event. As stormwater drains from buildings, streets, and parking lots, it typically does not infiltrate into the ground. Instead it becomes sheet flow that is eventually piped into a storm sewer system, causing already stressed collection and treatment facilities to release contaminated water directly into local waterways because they are unable to handle the increased flows.
"A part of the European landscape for more than 100 years, consumers in the United States have been slow to embrace the benefits of this greening environment," said Pierre Bennerup, CEO Sunny Border Nurseries, Inc.
