Suffolk Education awarded contract to build College of Pharmacy at University of Rhode Island

Suffolk Education has been awarded a contract to manage the construction of a new, $45 million, state-of-the-art College of Pharmacy Building at the University of Rhode Island. The new 147,000 s/f laboratory and academic building will be built in close proximity to four existing active campus buildings. The project is on an aggressive schedule, and Suffolk's ability to provide comprehensive preplanning, adhere to budget and schedule, and deliver complex laboratory and academic facilities are essential to the success of this project. Designed by Payette architects of Boston, the new College of Pharmacy will include cutting-edge research spaces that are designed to foster teamwork among students. Tissue culture rooms and eight-person research modules will support research laboratories. The facility also will include a 165-seat auditorium, classrooms, three teaching laboratories and a patient simulator center. Suffolk will work closely with Payette and the University to ensure the facility meets LEED Silver certification standards. "This award of this contract is yet another example of Suffolk's competitive spirit and experience in delivering complex laboratory and academic construction projects," said Angus Leary, vice president of Suffolk Education. "We are very excited to be working with the University of Rhode Island and delivering a first-class facility that will allow the University's world-class doctor of pharmacy program to grow." Construction on the new College of Pharmacy has begun, and the facility is scheduled to open in fall 2011.
