Southington, CT S/L/A/M Construction Services (SLAM CS) was honored by the Connecticut Associated Builders and Contractors (CT ABC) with an Award of Merit – Institutional for Excellence in Construction for the Chapel Haven Residential/Education (REACH) Building Project, located in New Haven, Connecticut. SLAM CS also received the first ever Spirit Award for employing the most ABC member subcontractors on a project. SLAM CS accepted the award at the ABC Annual Construction Awards Dinner held at the Aqua Turf, on October 24th.

“The success of the Phase One REACH building project turnaround was the result of the team assembled and their ability to communicate and work collaboratively and unselfishly towards the common goal,” said Michael Storz, president, Chapel Haven Schleifer Center, Inc. “S/L/A/M Construction Services role in the REACH building project was excellent and their contribution to the entire project team was commendable. I congratulate the team at SLAM CS for this well-deserved ABC CT Excellence in Construction Award.”

SLAM’s integrated design-build team was hired in February of 2017 to transform Chapel Haven’s New Haven educational and residential campus. The project scope included master planning, programming, design and construction. Phase one of this project provided a new four-story 32,500 s/f educational and residential facility (known as the REACH Building).

with three upper floors of dormitory-type suites with two- and three-bedroom units, shared kitchens and common spaces. The first floor includes classrooms, gathering spaces, and administration. Besides the REACH building there was an addition and renovation to the existing admissions building, infrastructure improvements, exterior courtyard space, new parking area and improved access to the campus.

The annual Connecticut ABC awards event honors outstanding construction projects to construction companies and subcontractors. The Excellence in Construction awards are judged by an independent panel, comprised of owners, architects, engineers and other industry leaders. Project submittals must adhere to rigorous application requirements for consideration of the year’s top honors. Contractors must demonstrate outstanding quality in construction and references from the project owner, and rigorous safety performance.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
