Skanska promotes Zeppieri to vice president and O’Connell to senior director

Boston, MA To expand the benefits of leading-edge technology for its clients and better support its people, Skanska USA’s building operations has elevated its Emerging Technology team, promoting Michael Zeppieri to vice president and Danielle O’Connell to senior director.

“Skanska has long been a company of innovators—we don’t leave innovation up to a single team or department,” said Anita Nelson, chief strategy officer, Skanska USA Building. “Our Emerging Technology team fosters and harnesses this inquisitive, tech-oriented culture, drives knowledge sharing throughout the business, and listens to our boots on the ground, ensuring the technology we implement delivers the best solutions for the right reasons.”

In his new role, Zeppieri will lead the exploration, piloting and scaling of new technologies, encourage inventive problem solving across the organization, and expand career options through development opportunities and non-traditional technology roles. He will oversee the Emerging Technology team’s efforts to ensure technology implementation is informed by data-driven insights, and work with vendors and partners to stay ahead of the curve, leveraging all the possibilities of technology for the right reasons.

O’Connell will focus on client engagement and delivering enhanced, project specific solutions that provide the most value. Additionally, she will work with Skanska’s leadership across the country to provide support and solutions that address the unique needs of each of its geographic regions and market sectors.

Zeppieri takes on this new role with 25 years in the industry. During his eight years with Skanska, he has focused on providing solutions to complex problems through technology, data integration and efficient workflows. Notably, Zeppieri formed and led Skanska’s Technology Services team. This cross-functional group provided consulting services and brought a solutions-oriented approach to clients and projects that leveraged advanced technologies across multiple domains, such as digital twins, data analytics and low-code application development. Previously he held supply chain operations and enterprise IT service management positions with Boeing, as well as active-duty leadership positions with the U.S. Army. Zeppieri is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

O’Connell is well suited for her new role with 14 years in the industry, the majority of which were spent in the field as a BIM/VDC manager and project manager. Prior to joining Skanska, she worked for Massport to enable technology and BIM adoption across their projects. O’Connell brings a unique perspective from her experience working on the client and construction manager sides, and understands the needs of both customers and builders. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a BA in Architecture and Design.
