Shawmut Design and Construction celebrates opening of $125 million Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Dudley Square

Shawmut Design and Construction, a $968 million national construction management firm, joined mayor Martin Walsh, and elected officials on April 25 for the grand opening of the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Dudley Sq. The $125 million facility is the new home of the Boston Public Schools headquarters. The project required renovation and new construction of a 215,000 s/f, six-story municipal office facility as well as community spaces for events, an innovation center and 18,000 s/f of ground-floor retail space. The city selected Shawmut as the project's CM at-risk contractor. The building is the largest capital building project the city has managed since the construction of Boston City Hall. During the grand opening ceremony, mayor Walsh praised Shawmut for their work on the project and their successful collaboration with the community. Councilor Tito Jackson thanked Shawmut for "doing it the right way" by employing residents of Roxbury and completing the project on time and on budget. Shawmut was tasked with preserving and restoring three historic structures, including the Ferdinand's Furniture Building and the Curtis Block and Waterman & Sons buildings, to create a triangle of historic façades connected by new construction. Shawmut worked closely with the Boston Landmarks Commission and Mass. Historical Commission to ensure the new building harmonized with the original materials, which included early twentieth-century brick, a limestone Baroque and Renaissance Revival structure, and an 1895 terra cotta façade. Shawmut was also able to ensure efficiency and quality throughout every step of the project by utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to track the progress of one of the largest projects in the city's history. The project was overseen by the city's property and construction management department in collaboration with the Boston Redevelopment Authority and PMA Consultants. The design team was a joint venture between Sasaki Associates and Mecanoo. Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
