Allston, MA Shawmut Design and Construction is nearing completion of Harvard University’s Pagliuca Life Lab, a new two-story modular Innovation Wet Lab. The new lab will offer shared laboratory space for high-potential life sciences and biotech startups established by Harvard faculty, alumni, students, and postdoctoral scholars.

Shawmut collaborated with architect Shepley Bulfinch on the new 15,000 s/f facility located on Harvard’s Allston campus, adjacent to the Shawmut-built Harvard Innovation Lab (i-lab) and Launch Lab, will include a fully equipped and permitted laboratory and office space for early stage companies. One of the Life Lab’s goals is to contribute to building a thriving startup community in Allston by seeding the campus with early stage scientific ventures.

“A major goal of this project is to ensure the ability to relocate the space in a five to ten-year time frame, which our team will accomplish through the modular building design,” said Kevin Sullivan, vice president at Shawmut.

The new lab will provide learning and career development opportunities to Harvard students, and through collaborations with scientific startups, generate insights and expertise to support Harvard’s ongoing efforts to build a successful life-science environment. Together with the i-lab and Launch Lab, the Life Lab will foster the cross-disciplinary approach to entrepreneurship that will enable deeper impact and outcomes.
