Sasaki leads design of 480,000 s/f Akamai Technologies global headquarters in Cambridge’s Kendall Sq.

Cambridge, MA Breaking ground over the summer, Akamai Technologies, took a big step forward in consolidating their six Cambridge offices into one global headquarters. Sasaki is designing Akamai’s office within the ambitious 480,000 s/f building, located right in Kendall Sq. The project is slated for completion in late 2019.

The office will feature a continuous mile of collaborative space that flows through the building’s 19 floors via 12 interconnecting stairs. This mile-long path will be an active zone, affording ample space for conference rooms, amenities, and collaborative areas. Focusing this thread on activity and collaboration will enable workstations and desking areas to remain quiet and focused.

The path throughout the building will be defined by a custom computer-generated pattern. The pattern is manifested in lines, representing connections between Akamai office locations as well as connections the Internet allows users to make—which is what Akamai does: making the Internet fast, reliable, and secure.

Akamai is a company on the cutting edge of technology, and the design of their new headquarters will provide them with an office environment that will allow their teams to continue to develop and push innovative ideas for years to come.
