RDK Engineers completes phase 2 of Phillips Exeter Academy's Webster Hall renovation

RDK Engineers in conjunction with Cutler Associates, provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecommunications and security engineering design services for renovations to the four-story, 100+ year old Webster Hall Dormitory at Phillips Exeter Academy. The renovations have modernized the building systems while bringing the facility up to current code. RDK designed new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to improve the overall efficiency of the building systems. Design included a new steam to hot water heat exchanger; and new energy recovery AHU serving the game room, shower and toilet rooms and corridors. Electrical system upgrades included new service derived from the campus 4.16kV distribution system; energy-efficient lighting with occupancy sensor control throughout; a new 250 kW natural gas-fired generator to provide standby emergency power to Webster Hall and adjacent dormitory buildings; and a new fully addressable fire alarm system. Additional upgrades included a new elevator, new sprinkler coverage to meet the altered architectural layout, and telecommunications design for telephone, data, CATV and wireless conductivity throughout the building. Security includes an electronic door access system for the dormitory that will be tied into the campus central system. The project scope included roof replacement, building envelope repairs, upgraded interior finishes and new bathrooms as well. The project was completed using the design/build project delivery method with Cutler providing architectural and construction management services. The completed project was accomplished in two phases (Summer 2013 and Summer 2014).

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
