Project of the Month: Acorn Management completes renovation of Whitman Mill into Victoria Riverside Townhouse Lofts
The historic Whitman Mill, renamed Victoria Riverside Townhouse Lofts, has undergone complete renovation into unique apartments and recently celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the developer, Stephen Ricciardi, governor Deval Patrick and New Bedford mayor Scott Lang.
Built in 1896, by William Whitman it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designed by Charles Makepeace an internationally famous architect. At its peak, the mill was equipped with 177,608 spindles and 4,610 looms.
This historic mill building with views of the Acushnet River has been converted into town house lofts and one story lofts with 18' cathedral ceilings and 14' windows. Original maple hardwood floors have been preserved and all units have been equipped with modern amenities including stainless steel appliances and air conditioning. An underground heated garage is available for tenants.
"The building sat vacant for several decades before Ricciardi's Quincy based firm saw its potential and rehabilitated the 250,000 s/f building into 100 apartments" said mayor Lang. Governor Patrick said, "Communities get built; they just don't happen."
Ricciardi said, "the success of the project was a team effort which included David Scherer, director of development, Stephen Rodri, CFO, Quentin Ricciardi, vice presdient of development, Alan Caldwell, project manager and Rhonda Robitaille, property manager.
