Education: Dartmouth College, 1952
After four years in the Stretegic Air Command, Jay became employed as a sales engineer with Diehl Mfg. Co., working his way up to New England district manager in 1957. One of his closest friends was young architect Tad Stahl who was instrumental in interesting Jay in real estate business by asking him to assist a brother in developing an industrial plant. It wasn’t long before Stahl and Schochet discussed dreams of developing a skyscraper in downtown Boston, and with the help of attorney John Dineen and broker Richard Wood of Hunneman Company, along with a British investment group introduced to the development by Stahl, these dreams became a reality with the State Street Building, downtown Boston’s largest office structure.
Jay became a partner at William C. Codman in 1963. Today, it has grown from 8 to 30 employees and offers services in all phases of the business.
Married with one child (Mrs. Schochet is an attorney with the Boston Safe Deposit Trust), the Schochets reside on Beacon Hill and Jay finds time to sing with the Apollo Club of Boston, the oldest singing group in the country.
