Harold Brown 1967
Name: Harold Brown
Firm: Hamilton Realty Company, Allston, Mass.
Born: Boston, 1925
Education: Brookline High; M.I.T.
Harold Brown is becoming well known in the New England area as one of Greater Boston’s largest property owners, controlling over 1,000 apartment units, many new or remodeled.
After working as an engineer with a large manufacturing firm for 12 years and investing in an occasional apartment property, Harold, in 1959, turned his attentions to a full-time owner-management operation and began seriously buying investment properties. Along with these activities, he also did some development and is known to have built the first apartment house swimming pool in New England and the first roof-top pool, which was constructed at the Hamilton House Motel in Brookline.
With an office of 30 employees, including three brothers, Harold has found it an important advantage to do all his own work. “Our vacancy ratio is zero and we plan to keep it that way. Our buying interests lie in the field of properties to be remodeled as close to Boston as possible. We also like to build apartments. We seldom sell.”
Harold, a navy veteran of WW2 and the Korean War, once ran a consultant firm for M.I.T.; is a bachelor; and enjoys sports and music, once a clarinet player.
