After working at several odd jobs in the early 30’s, Harold discovered an excellent opportunity with Solomon Bros., an investment firm, as a cashier. “This was a financial education which led to my 1946 position of assistant treasurer at Stoneham Cooperative.” 10 years later, Harold became treasurer, which carried the duties of president. In 1966, Harold became the official president when the bank elected the former president Chairman of the Board.
An aggressive bank, Stoneham was active in participation loans, which included apartments and industrial buildings. Of course, since money tightened up, Stoneham has granted very few loans, “things are showing signs of easing up; we have been paying off loans and are almost ready to become active again. I feel that money will loosen for a while, then tighten again in the Spring, then loosen again.”
Harold is married with two children, and recently became a grandfather (the youngest looking grandfather in banking). His son is a hair stylist in Hollywood. A member of the Shriners, the Zoning Bylaws Committee and the Citizens Relocation Committee, Harold enjoys golf and gardening.
