On September 25th ground was broken for a new state of the art outpatient facility that will house a clinical collaboration between the Massachusetts General Hospital and the North Shore Medical Center. The facility will be built by Walsh Brothers, Inc.,with a construction cost of $67 million.
The planned building is located on Rte. 128 and will deliver a level of service more sophisticated than any existing or proposed outpatient facility in the region. The sleek, technologically driven 122,000 s/f outpatient building is being designed by the Boston architectural firm of Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott and will house the latest in cardiac diagnostics, suites for outpatient and minimally invasive surgery and advanced imaging services. It will also serve as the expanded home to the new MGH/NSMC Cancer Center, a collaborative oncology program with the MGH and the Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care. This new center will provide patients on the North Shore with the highest level of medical care close to home.
Soothing and peaceful, the cancer center will incorporate patient-centered design with the latest in medical technology. The two story atrium at the entrance will provide magnificent views of the abutting marshes as well as an overview of the lush natural surroundings. Construction of the facility is expected to be completed in the spring of 2009.
