Two of Erland Constructions's LEED Gold projects part of the USGBC's walking tour on November 22nd
November 19, 2008 - Green Buildings
Erland Construction will have two projects shown on the USGBC's full day of walking tours during the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Boston. On November 22nd, attendees will have the opportunity to see the renovated and expanded Cadet Residence Hall at Mass. Maritime Academy (MMA) in Bourne and the US EPA Laboratory in Chelmsford - both LEED Gold projects built by Erland.
Erland completed the MMA dormitory expansion in August of 2007. The project consisted of adding two floors to two of the existing dormitories while they remained in use, thereby increasing capacity by 150 beds without taking away sites for future development needs. A one story connector building that united the area on the first floor was demolished and then rebuilt into a six story structure to house a new elevator. The complex renovation and expansion project has recently been honored with several industry awards including the CMAA New England Building of the Year Award; Construction Communications' Gold Medal Building of America Award; and the Associated Builders and Contractors' New England Chapter Excellence in Construction Eagle Award.
This design/build regional facility for the U.S. EPA accommodates 30 different types of research and testing labs. This facility was one of the first in the country to use the passive solar energy photovoltaic system and one of the first laboratories to receive a LEED Gold rating in Mass.
