Brough of Wright-Pierce and Lafayette team takes top honor at U.S. Green Building Council National Conference

Lindsey Brough, an environmental engineer in the wastewater practice group at Wright-Pierce, an award winning environmental engineering firm, was a member of a multidisciplinary team of Lafayette College students who took top honors in the annual United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Natural Talent Design contest held last spring. The Lafayette team was the only undergraduate student team to receive the prestigious award in a field of contenders comprised of graduate students and professional design firms. According to the USGBC contest guidelines "the contest goal was to create the most sustainable learning environment on an assigned site." Brough's team was assigned the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park site in Brooklyn, N.Y. The challenge was to revitalize the urban, waterfront park using green principles of integrated design, sustainability, and innovation - all components of the LEED rating system. Brough's team design converted an abandoned historic warehouse complex and adjacent state park into a middle school, community arts center, and commercial space. Brough is a 2008 graduate of Lafayette College where she earned a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering. Brough joined Wright-Pierce in July and is a project engineer in the Wastewater Practice Group.
