RIAGC's-YCF and AIA-RI's Canstruction sculpture exhibit Sept. 13-26
September 11, 2008 - Rhode Island
View a free Canstruction sculpture exhibition Sept. 13-26, along the Providence Place Mall's Concourse to the Convention Center's Skybridge.
Watch six teams of design and construction professionals create their sculptures Saturday morning, Sept. 13, from cans of food around this year's theme: "Help stop hunger. One can."
Designed to inspire public awareness and support for alleviating the plight of the increasing numbers of Rhode Islanders unable to afford enough food, the art will become food on Sept. 27, when the teams dismantle the sculptures and donate the canned goods to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Then attend the catered gala awards celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 24 on the Providence Place Mall Concourse. The gala is open to those making a $10 donation by cash or check only at the door to the R.I. Community Food Bank. Providence mayor David Cicilline will present several awards in various categories for winning sculptures previously selected by a committee of judges.
The six 2008 Rhode Island Canstruction teams consist of employees of:
* Dimeo Construction Company
* Donald Powers Architects
* Lerner | Ladds + Bartels/Odeh Engineers/Shawmut Design and Construction
* Newport Collaborative Architects
* Robinson Green Beretta/Gilbane Building Co.
* Saccoccio & Associates
The exhibit and gala are the second annual Canstruction Rhode Island event that the Young Constructors Forum of the Rhode Island Associated General Contractors and the American Institute of Architects of Rhode Island have organized as a joint public service activity.
