2020 Women in Construction: Renae Meserve, Project Manager at Starlite Building Services
What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months? I am involved with mostly rough carpentry scopes and emergency repairs at Harvard University. I have enjoyed being part of a team tasked with high-priority projects–it’s very motivating!
What are you doing differently in 2020 that has had a positive impact on your career? I have been optimizing my days on site or in the office by staying focused, preparing for tasks ahead of time, and collaborating with my team and coworkers to ensure I am being as efficient as possible. There is a wealth of knowledge around me, and I am continuing to learn and develop my career every day.
What trends are you seeing in your field this year? This isn’t a new trend, but I have noticed more project teams including the subcontractors earlier in the project or during pre-con. Getting subcontractors involved creates a partnership, as well as an opportunity to preemptively solve issues and avoid potential roadblocks.
Who or what inspired you to join the construction industry? I enjoy the fast-paced environment of the industry. I’m constantly motivated and inspired by the people around me. I feel lucky to work with people who are constantly learning and growing–it’s infectious!
When I’m not working I am…Probably doing projects around my house or traveling with friends!
