Timberline Construction begins renovation project at Dimock Center - designed by Platt Anderson Freeman Architects
Roxbury, MA The Dimock Center broke ground on January 17 on a renovation project to restore its aging detoxification facility and strengthen its comprehensive substance use disorder treatment services. The health and human services organization houses one of only three in-patient detox facilities in Boston and one of 30 in the state offering addiction recovery services for men and women.
Construction management firm Timberline Construction recently began demolition inside the existing space to make way for the new detox facility. The renovation, designed by Platt Anderson Freeman Architects and managed by Pinck & Co, Inc., will increase The Dimock Center’s in-patient acute treatment beds from 30 to 40, reaching an additional 1,000 people annually for a total of 4,000 patients served each year.
The interior renovations will also create new program areas, including residential double occupancy units, open nurses’ stations, integrated case management offices, multipurpose community rooms, integrated security and an outpatient treatment area.
The project is the result of Dimock’s ongoing $16 million capital campaign, Building the Road to Recovery, which was supported by lead contributor The Yawkey Foundations, as well as the three major hospital networks in Boston: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Partners HealthCare, and Boston Medical Center, among other supporters.
The Dimock Center has also received tremendous support from city and state leaders and welcomed Governor Charlie Baker and Mayor Martin J. Walsh as speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“The opening of this new facility positions The Dimock Center to continue providing important services and treatment to those on a path to recovery,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “We are pleased to work with community partners like The Dimock Center as we continue to implement landmark reforms and education, prevention and treatment provisions aimed at curbing the impact of the Commonwealth’s opioid epidemic.”
“The Dimock Center is a world-class health care organization that is committed to serving our city’s most vulnerable residents, and I am proud to be part of the groundbreaking of its new facility,” said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “Dimock offers people a place to turn to when they are in need of help, and has a reputation for being a local leader in offering a continuum of care and services to its clients. Its community approach to care and culture of trust is one of a kind, and through its expansion of services it will be able to reach even more Bostonians.”
“The support we’ve received for the Building the Road to Recovery campaign is transformative,” said Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, President and CEO of The Dimock Center. “Our number one priority is patient care, especially as we face an unprecedented opioid epidemic. The Dr. Lucy Sewall Center for Acute Treatment Services will help us serve more patients in a state-of-the-art facility and enhance our renowned substance use disorder treatment model.”
