The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center's (EBNHC) 20 Maverick Sq. building was awarded LEED Gold certification for environmentally friendly and sustainable features that will reduce the health center's carbon footprint.
"We're proud to be able to provide our patients with superior care in an innovative building that not only utilizes state-of-the-art technology for health care, but promotes sustainability for our community and future generations," said Manny Lopes, CEO of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.
EBNHC received the Gold level of certification. LEED certification, designated by the U.S. Green Building Council, is considered to be the global industry standard for environmentally friendly buildings and promotes the design and construction of high-performing green buildings that use less energy and water, consume fewer natural resources, create less waste and are healthier and more comfortable for occupants. The 20 Maverick Sq. building, which opened in June 2012, also includes priority parking for low-emission vehicles, as well as showers and a bicycle rack to make it easier for employees to bike to work. Additionally, EBNHC was recognized for having exemplary performance for innovation in design, which includes environmentally friendly furniture.
The Maverick Sq. facility is a 45,000 s/f ambulatory care building, which houses family medicine, woman's care, the elder service plan, and specialty services, including a vision center with a full-service optical shop and pediatric dentistry program.
The building opened in 2012 and was designed by architectural firm isgenuity and built by Suffolk Construction. To read previously published story http://nerej.com/41731
