McGovern recognized as the Appraisal Institute's "Volunteer of Distinction" for Region IV

The Rhode Island chapter's own, William McGovern, SRA, of Bristol, was recognized as the Appraisal Institute's June "Volunteer of Distinction" for Region IV. Region IV consists of Conn., Maine, Mass., N.H., N.Y., R.I. and Vermont, as well as New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec, Canada. McGovern is a member of the R.I. Chapter. "William McGovern is an excellent ambassador for the Appraisal Institute," said Appraisal Institute president Sara Stephens, MAI. "We're privileged to have members like William who actively contribute to the real estate valuation profession and to their local communities every day." McGovern is the Nominating Committee chair of the R.I. Chapter. He has served on its board of directors since 2004, and from 1986-1999. He also served as chapter president in 2011 and from 1984-1986, vice president in 2009, government relations committee chair in 2003,; second vice president in 2002, membership committee chair from 1995-1996, regional representative from 1990-1991 and education committee chair from 1982-1983. He served on the Appraisal Institute's Residential Appraiser Board Admissions Committee from 1993-1997. He became a member of the Appraisal Institute in 1975 and received his SRA designation in 1981. He has been president of Northeast Real Estate Appraisal Professionals (formerly Northeast Consulting) since 1992, and has been involved in the real estate valuation profession for 37 years. He has served the Rhode Island Association of Realtors as an instructor and expert witness since 1960, and was named the RIAR Educator of the Year in 1995. He served as a director and on the Education and Building Committees of the Greater Providence Board of Realtors, and received the organization's Lear Award for unselfish and dedicated service. He has been a member of the Bristol Elks Lodge #1860 since 2005, serving on the Americanism and Membership and Dock Committees. He has been a member of the Bristol Yacht Club since 1994, serving on the Waterfront Committee and as cruise coordinator. He served on the Cranston, R.I. Tax Board of Review from 1988-1998. He served in the Rhode Island House of Representatives from 1969-1972 on the House Corporations and Veterans Committees. He is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army. He earned a degree from Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He is married with five children, two step children and 10 grandchildren
