FM Global honored by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships
July 7, 2011 - Rhode Island
FM Global, Rhode Island's largest private company and one of the world's largest commercial property insurers, has been named a "Business Leader for Energy Efficiency" by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) for its commitment to energy conservation with the construction of its 366,660 s/f, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) corporate headquarters. FM Global was honored at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit on June 8.
The high-performance office building—among the state's greenest—is 40% more energy efficient than its previous headquarters and has conserved more than 3 million kWh per year, resulting in an annual energy cost savings of more than $350,000 since it opened in 2009. FM Global worked with National Grid to identify opportunities to maximize energy efficiency by installing lighting controls that reduce energy during low-use periods, reflective roof coatings that capture natural sunlight and an Energy Management System (EMS) to monitor and regulate energy use, to name a few.
"At FM Global, conservation has been ingrained in our business philosophy for more than 175 years," said Don Oldmixon, vice president of real estate for FM Global. "We're pleased to have constructed a building that is built to last, minimizes environmental impact, and promotes the health and wellness of our employees, and provides them a great place to work."
The building was designed by Vision 3 Architects and built by Dimeo Construction Co.
