Boston Preservation Alliance hosts auction fundraiser April 14th
March 17, 2011 - Front Section
The Boston Preservation Alliance's 2011 auction fundraiser "Party on Post Office Square," will be held on Thursday, April 14th, 5:30 p.m. The Alliance will celebrate the Norman B. Leventhal Park at Post Office Square and the Friends of Post Office Square will be recognized for two decades of outstanding stewardship of this urban oasis, which has inspired the revitalization of its historic surroundings and helped to reinvigorate downtown.
The event will be held at the New England Telephone & Telegraph Building, 185 Franklin St. Built in 1947, the building is associated with a major New England company that played a critical role in the establishment and growth of the national telephone and telecommunications industry.
Designed by the architectural firm of Cram & Ferguson, it is also one of Boston's early skyscrapers, and one of the very few Art Deco skyscrapers to be built in the city.
Both silent and live auctions featuring a range of items including travel packages, tickets to cultural and sporting events, gift certificates to Boston restaurants and historic hotels, as well as novelties related to preservation will be featured. Proceeds from the auction support the Alliance's efforts to protect and improve the quality of the city's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities through advocacy, education, and leadership.
Founded in 1978, the Boston Preservation Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's distinct architectural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.
Tickets cost $150. For more information on the event or to reserve tickets, please contact Christine Piontek at cpiontek@bostonpreservation.org or 617-367-2458. Or visit www.bostonpreservation.org/programs/gala-auction.html.
