Erland Construction awarded renovation of 33,000 s/f Andover Inn at Phillips Academy

Erland Construction, Inc. was recently awarded a major renovation of the 33,000 s/f Andover Inn at Phillips Academy. Teaming with architecture firm Arrowstreet, Inc. on a design/build basis, Erland began construction in early September and will complete the project in late 2010.
Renovations to the 31-room hotel, built in 1930, will include upgrades to both the interior and exterior of the building. The inn will be completely gutted and rehabilitated—with the exception of the main lobby and dining areas, which Phillips Academy wanted to preserve because of the richness of their architectural detailing. When completed, the Andover Inn will feature new mechanical and electrical systems, as well as a new modernized look that will blend contemporary style with the historical nature of the inn.
This project marks the fourth time Erland has worked on the Phillips Academy campus. The previous three include the new Gelb Science Center and two dormitory renovations—the Claude M. Fuess House and Johnson Hall.
"We're very excited to work for Phillips Academy again and to team with Arrowstreet for the first time," said Jeff Ellowitz, Erland's residential group manager. "These renovations are really going to revitalize the Andover Inn, and we're looking forward to getting started after an extensive preconstruction period."
