Poulos, founder of GEI Consultants, named honorary member of BSCES

GEI Consultants, Inc.'s founder Dr. Steve Poulos, PE. PhD has been named an honorary member of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (BSCES). Alexander Chajes, PE, PhD, of the Univ. of Mass. - Amherst, was also chosen as an honorary member at this year's event. Dr. Poulos, a registered professional civil engineer specializing in soil and rock mechanics and geohydrology, is a principal of GEI Consultants which he founded in 1970 with partners Dr. Ronald Hirschfeld, Dr. Daniel LaGatta and Richard Murdock. Throughout his career, he has managed over 800 projects covering all aspects of geotechnical engineering design and he is a recognized expert in dam engineering. At the 160th annual awards dinner of the BSCES held on June 10th in Boston, Linda Hager, P.E., president of BSCES, recognized Dr. Poulos' contributions to geotechnical engineering. Dr. Poulos has been instrumental in applying this concept to practice, particularly to analyzing the impact of earthquakes on dams. The concept of the steady-state condition remains powerfully relevant. Dr. Poulos currently serves on a national panel for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate the condition of dams most in need of remediation. As a result of the recommendations by the panel, extensive exploration, design, and construction are underway.
