New Energy Works Timberframers: The craft of timber framing and high efficiency enclosures

Waltham, MA Over our 30 years in timber framing, New Energy Works Timberframers have built projects of every shape and size. Homes and businesses that have allowed them to explore and celebrate the versatility of timber frame construction. Their appreciation may border on obsession as they often say they have sawdust in their DNA. Decades of working with this traditional building method has shown them it is unmatched for design flexibility, sustainability, and character. A timber frame expresses structure as craft. It also allows for an

efficient and long lasting way to create an envelope over the frame that is low in resources used, while highly efficient. In the past, their enclosure systems over their timber frames have yielded levels of air-tightness exceeding building code by a factor of five, or more. New materials and methods support their goal to build projects that are “net zero” in energy use, or as close to it as we can get.

Their clients hail from all over North America (and sometimes beyond). They build these relationships from their shops in New York and Oregon. Their clients’ dreams, wants, and needs are as diverse as their locations. Their common thread is love of fine wood, elegant design, and quality craft.

They offer a menu of services: • Timber framing: design, engineering, manufacturing, build • Enclosure systems: structural insulated panels, Matrix Wall(TM) & cellulose insulation; • Construction: project management & general contracting; • Fine woodworking: cabinetry, countertops, doors, stairs, and more; • Recycled wood products: timbers, flooring, barn siding, more.

Today timber frames are often crafted from reclaimed Douglas fir, pine, hemlock, and on very special occasions, oak. New Energy Works offers the option of reclaimed and fresh sawn timbers for your project.

Between New Energy Works, our fine woodworking group NEWwoodworks, and our sister company, Pioneer Millworks, we are 116 engineers, timber framers, craftspeople, carpenters, and co-workers with shops in Farmington and Shortsville, NY and McMinnville, OR. New Energy Works has been designing and building environmentally responsible timber frames across the USA for 30 years from their facilities in New York and Oregon. Offerings include: Timber Framing (design, engineering, manufacturing, build), Enclosure Systems, Fine Woodworking, Recycled and Sustainable wood products. New Energy Works has LEED AP staff members, is a member of the US Green Building Council and Timber Framers Guild.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
