Nauset Construction completes addition/renovation for Winchester Senior Living: design for 40,000 s/f by Levi + Wong; owned by Five Star Senior Living

Nauset Construction recently completed construction of a significant renovation, addition and site improvements to The Gables at Winchester, an integrated independent and assisted living retirement community owned and operated by Five Star Senior Living. Designed by architectural firm Levi + Wong Design Associates Inc., the 40,000 s/f project elevates the senior living experience by including a stadium-style theater, library, fitness center and a stylish bistro within the campus of the wooded location. The multi-million dollar project was completed in three phases over a 14 month period to minimize disruptions to the residents of The Gables. The addition includes a theater/media room with movie equipment and sound system and fixed, stadium style seating. A new activity room with a grand main entrance was constructed, featuring traditional architectural details with high end finishes. Additional improvements included a new beauty salon, an exercise room outfitted with the latest in fitness equipment, an elegant dining room and landscaped outdoor patios with stone wall seats, blue stone in-lays and warm exterior lighting. The project required extensive site preparation, and included the installation of a mat foundation to accommodate the steel and wood frame construction. Concrete retaining walls were constructed and new mechanical, electrical and fire alarm systems were installed throughout the existing facility. "The safety and contentment of a facility's residents is always the top priority for Nauset while performing construction work in an occupied environment, and that's where our extensive experience in these settings shows," said Anthony Papantonis, president of Nauset. "Extra care needs to be taken when working on building utilities such as the electrical, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, as they need to be maintained 100% during the construction, while also being mindful that we are in fact, working in people's homes." Five Star Senior Living is an operating division of Five Star Quality Care, Inc., that includes more than 230 independent living and assisted living facilities, skilled health care facilities, and continuing care retirement communities. Through its rehabilitation services operating division, Five Star operates rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient health rehabilitation clinics. Through its pharmacy services division, Five Star also operates several institutional pharmacies throughout the country. Levi + Wong Design Associates, Inc. is a multidisciplinary design firm offering architectural design, interior design, landscape architecture design, and planning services. The firm's experience includes projects in senior living, senior care, rehabilitative care, health care, bioscience, technology, corporate, commercial and residential environments. The practice's foundation is that the principals of Levi + Wong serve clients as working principals - not just as managing principals. All projects are under the direct supervision of a principal, who works with clients and their user groups. Nauset Construction is a construction management and design-build firm run by industry veterans with a shared goal of providing an unparalleled client experience. The ability to continuously deliver Nauset's exceptional client experience is attributed to the firm's strong culture and team chemistry. Nauset's culture has been transferred throughout the company by its senior management team, which developed a unique and powerful working relationship long before joining Nauset. This team synergy has resulted in the delivery of many successful projects and happy, repeat-clients. Nauset excels at complex projects on challenging sites with aggressive time and budget requirements - often in sensitive, occupied and operational environments. Our team has developed extensive experience and a growing portfolio of projects in the medical, senior living, education and multi-unit residential sectors involving renovations, additions and new, ground-up construction. Taking a collaborative approach throughout the project cycle, Nauset provides creative ideas and alternative methods that reduce cost and increase value to its clients, while creating lasting relationships.
