M.C. Andrews Co., Inc. (MCA) has been contracted to build the new $2.4 million Cafua Management, LLC building. The building is located at 280 Merrimack St. The architect for the project is James D. Smith Architect, AIA of West Barnstable, Mass. MCM will be in charge of the new group up construction of the 40,000 s/f property. Cafua will occupy 20,000 s/f for their corporate headquarters, while the other 20,000 s/f with be divided into five potential commercial tenant spaces. Architect James Smith, said the following about working with MCA, "I have said from the start that I felt you personally and your company's approach to the project stood out from the first time I met you at a pre-bid meeting. Your enthusiasm and the effort you had put into studying the plans ahead of time were unique and after the meeting the owners and I were hoping your numbers would be the best so you would get the job, which thankfully you did. I have worked with dozens of construction companies like yours and have rarely found anyone as easy to work with as you. You have never looked for excuses to charge for extras but instead smoked out items that the rest of us had overlooked and gave me and the owners the opportunity to revisit the plans or find better and more economical ways to build the building. When the inevitable surprises have come along as the building has been under construction you have been outstanding at coming up with immediate solutions and the project has never been delayed as a result. It has been a real pleasure to get to know you and many of your people. You all make the job site a fun place to be and I am looking forward to working with you again many times in the future."
