Looking forward to improving on and adding to our offerings
Well, hello again. My name is Wes Nicoll, and last January I introduced myself to you as the newly elected president of the Greater Hartford chapter of BOMA. Well, here we are at the halfway point of my term as president. I am very pleased with how the organization operated last year and am looking forward to improving on and adding to our offerings for 2014.
I would like to thank all our board members for their support and guidance over the last year. We have also had some members step up as well. We have been able to re-invigorate our membership and sponsorship efforts. We have also been able to provide some informative programming along with some great opportunities for our members to network and make those connections.
As I mentioned, there is still plenty of room for improvement and to add value to BOMA and your membership. As I have mentioned, we have our full line of programming for 2014 already planned! We actually had our January program last week, where fellow BOMA member and State of CT administrator for leasing and property transfer, Shane Mallory, gave a fantastic program on the recent purchases made by the state in the downtown area, what they will be used for, and how they will be filled.
Of course, we have fabulous plans for the rest of the year including more educational programming, some tours of local projects, and of course some of our annual favorites like the TOBY Awards and our Annual Gus Johnson Golf Outing! There is plenty of time to get involved. Please consider sponsoring one of our events, or even perhaps participating in coordinating. We can always use help on our committees!
In addition to our monthly programming, we are also planning to offer some local BOMI educational courses. In particular, BOMI has unveiled a new Program called HP. You can find information on this web page http://www.bomi.org/Students/high-performance-management.aspx. We are making plans to hold this program in our area during 2014. Please stay tuned.
And of course, we will continue to be your #1 source for industry standards, information, and networking in your industry!
We have mailed out invoices to all 2013 members for their 2014 dues, with a great response so far. BOMA members know the value of being a member of a strong organization with strong ties both locally and internationally. Our aim is to offer a great package of education, networking, and opportunities to all of our members.
As I mentioned, I have some high expectations for the upcoming year, as well as some ideas to help grow our local. I feel the key to these activities is to get everyone involved. So please give some thought to giving a little bit (more?) of yourself to BOMA by joining a committee, and giving some input. I feel the key to our success lies in our membership and our programming. I am eager to hear from ALL members of the local to see what their expectations are and what they are looking to get out of BOMA. Please reach out directly to me to let me know if you have suggestions or if you would like to see how you can help. After all, we are an organization of people and the people are what will make us stronger.
I would like to thank all of our great sponsors for their support in 2013. (Gold Sponsors - Griffin Land and EMCOR Services/New England Mechanical Services. Silver Sponsors - Premier Maintenance, and Otis Elevator. Bronze Sponsors- ACRE Group, Apollo International, KS Partners, OFS Corporation, Pullman & Comely, ServPro of Hartford County, Siemens Building Technologies, and Wattsaver Lighting Products) We appreciate everything that they do for us. I would also like to encourage anyone who is interested to please consider becoming an annual sponsor for BOMA Greater Hartford for 2014. It is the best opportunity to highlight your company to the other members, receive free passes to monthly meetings, and to financially support your organization. We have many different sponsorship opportunities, including monthly program sponsorship.
So as we embark on 2014 I once again encourage you to get involved, stay informed, contribute, speak your mind, and share your ideas for BOMA Greater Hartford. We are poised to have a great year, and would like everyone interested to be involved. You can keep up with our activity through our website www.bomahartford.com.
