Liberty Mutual Group will open a customer service call center at the Springfield Technical Community College Technology Park, providing up to 300 jobs to area residents.
Gov. Deval Patrick, joined by state and local officials, during a recent press conference, said "Liberty Mutual's expansion demonstrates the strength of the business environment in the commonwealth and our commitment to economic development and job growth everywhere."
Edmund Kelly, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Liberty Mutual, said Springfield has what the company needs, including a "deep pool" of potential employees, low costs, excellent highway access and major physical improvements planned along the State St. corridor.
Liberty Mutual has a 10-year lease for 55,000 s/f of space. The company expects to hire up to 150 employees this year and eventually expand up to 300, according to Kelly. The first group of employees will begin approximately eight weeks of training starting in July.
