Glastonbury, CT Lexington Partners, developers of The Tannery (formerly Flanagan’s Landing), have proposed architectural enhancements and improvements aimed at improving the final design of the renovated mill.
The historic Tannery mill site, located on 32 acres on the newly created Flanagan’s Dr. off of New London Turnpike near Glastonbury Center, is being redeveloped as a mixed-use development, including 250 luxury apartment homes with a variety of living options.
The reuse of the mill buildings intentionally maintains historic features by keeping the brick facade of the four-story mill building intact, and renovating the three story mill building to more closely resemble an original mill structure. Extensive research on the site’s rich industrial past inspired the name change. The Tannery reflects centuries of history in their entirety, with a dedication to craftsmanship. There are even plans to work with the Glastonbury Historical Society to house some of the property’s historic archives on site for all to view.
Restoring the 4-story Tannery building, its historic pump-house and dam, is the vision of developer Martin Kenny, principal of Lexington Partners, LLC.
“The Tannery will utilize a historic mill and will convert the property into the town’s premier luxury apartment community,” said Kenny. “This project will bring Glastonbury a whole new style of living creating a warm industrial back-drop for a modern living experience for millennials, professionals and empty nesters alike.”
Construction on The Tannery began in the fall of 2015; pre-leasing will begin this fall with initial occupancy beginning this coming winter.
“The proposed enhancements are true to the industrial identity of the mill buildings and are improvements to the development’s design,” said Matthew Koenig, principal of Barton Partners Architects Planners Inc. and designers of The Tannery.
