Landry/French Construction completes four-level 385-space VA parking garage in record 20-days

Portland, ME Landry/French Construction completed the erection of the four-level, 385-space parking garage for the new VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located at 141 West Commercial St.

As the result of a well-executed plan, the parking garage was erected in a record 20 days. Despite weather challenges in January, crews ramped up to an average of 20 men/day, placing 330 precast pieces each weighing from 30,000 to 70,000 lbs. All grouting operations on the facility required heating. The new parking garage will support the 68,710 s/f CBOC, allowing the VA to consolidate services from leased clinic spaces in the city and Saco. The facility will provide increased access to a core set of services and additional specialty care in the Southern part of Maine. Services will include primary care, mental health, surgical and medicine specialty services, dental, eye, audiology, physical therapy, prosthetics support, phlebotomy lab, radiology and telehealth. The new outpatient clinic will also serve as a teaching site with space dedicated to enhance affiliate relationships with Tufts Medical School and Maine Medical Center.

In addition to the new parking garage, a 150-space surface parking lot for staff will also be provided.

The project is being developed by J.B. Brown & Sons and Virginia developer FD Stonewater. Smithgroup is the architect for the project, and Gorrill Palmer provided civil engineering services. Landry/French is serving as the construction manager for both the parking garage and the CBOC.
