LaFebvre of GEI Consulants, Inc.

Responsibilities include: Engineering consultation including geotechnical analysis and design, field investigations, preparation of construction plans and specifications, construction monitoring, temporary shoring and permanent wall design, forensic investigations, preparation of cost estimates, and other construction and design activities for buildings, slopes, retaining wall, landfills, dams, pipelines, bridges, highways and other projects. Professionally, where were you ten years ago and where are you now? Ten years ago I was beginning my career as an engineering consultant at GEI. I have gained a lot of experience in engineering and construction since then, and have been able to work on a variety of challenging projects. Thanks to some wonderful leaders and mentors at GEI, I have been able to develop my technical engineering knowledge base and my skills as a responsive consultant serving our client's needs. What advise would you give to a woman just starting a career in your field? A woman starting in engineering consulting should take the time to expand both her technical knowledge and her career network, through both professional and client-based organizations. When I started my career, I spent much of my time working with a technical focus and attending engineering related events. Today, more of my time is focused on business development and client-based networking to sustain the technical work that much of our staff does. Joining professional and client organizations can help you make connections, promote your firm, and keep a finger on the pulse of market and latest technologies in your field.
