Woburn, MA L-3 Security & Detection Systems (L-3 SDS), a division of international defense contractor L-3 Communications, renewed its lease with Cummings Properties, continuing a longtime relationship between the two firms, which began in 2002.

Cummings Properties key accounts manager Marc Knittle worked with Torin Taylor of Cushman & Wakefield on the lease extension for three suites totaling 79,000 s/f at 10 Commerce Way.

“There’s a thriving high-tech community on and around Commerce Way and we’re thrilled that L-3 Security & Detection Systems continues to be part of it,” said Knittle.

Commerce Way is located at the junction of I-95 and I-93. Other high tech firms in that area include Aegis Lightwave, Gridco Systems, Levant Power, and Vaisala.

L-3 SDS manufactures security detection systems for use at airports, transportation centers, events, ports, borders, and secure government and commercial facilities. The Woburn facility serves as the division’s headquarters, which also has major offices in Asia, Europe, and Australia.

L-3 SDS announced its latest innovation in June, ClearScan–a new explosives detection system for screening bags at airports. ClearScan is designed to meet emerging regulatory and operational requirements and to accommodate passenger demand for a streamlined screening experience, according to Tom Ripp, president of L-3 SDS.

L-3 Communications posted sales of $12.1 billion in 2014 and employs 45,000 people worldwide.

Investing in a falling rate environment - by Harrison Klein

Long-term interest rates have fallen by 100 basis points, and the market is normalizing. In December of 2022 I wrote an article about investing in a high interest rate, high inflation market. Since then, inflation has cooled off, and the Fed has begun lowering their funds rate.
