J. Calnan completes Shire project

J. Calnan & Associates completed a fast-track renovation project for Shire, a biopharmaceutical compy. Shire's offices are located at 185 Alewife Brook Parkway. The project consisted of renovating nearly 15,000 s/f of space in the 1st floor of the fully operational building. Some of the highlights include: a complete mechanical & electrical overhaul including new switchgear with full metering capabilities, 3 new air handling units and a significant amount of energy efficient equipment; high-end offices combined with collaborative work stations; conference rooms utilizing LIFESPACE Wall Systems as well as the addition of a new, modern café which duals as a conferencing and presentation facility. The team also complied with all the necessary design, indoor air quality management, construction waste management, and sustainable materials required to meeting LEED standards. The team anticipates LEED Silver status for its efforts. The project team also included Elkus Manfredi, architecture and RG Vanderweil, engineering. Michael Crowther, vice president, J. Calnan said, "We're proud of the relationship we've developed with the Shire team over the years and look forward to continuing to provide our world-class services to this elite biopharmaceutical company."
