Hamel of Salem Five Mortgage Company honored by MassHousing

According to Salem Five Mortgage Company, Penny Hamel, vice president and senior loan officer, has received the MassHousing Originator of Mortgages achievement award. This inaugural award recognizes the loan originator that closes the most loans by volume using the MassHousing program. MassHousing is a not-for-profit public agency that provides financing for affordable housing in Massachusetts. The benefits of a MassHousing loan include affordable, fixed interest rates, 30-year repayment terms and mortgage payment protection, which provides payment assistance to homeowners in the event that they become unemployed. "Penny truly enjoys helping people purchase their first home and works with them every step of the way to help make their dreams come true," said Ed McDonald, president of Salem Five Mortgage. "We are so proud of Penny for her commitment to her clients and recognition for helping first time home buyers." Hamel has been a member of the Westford Rotary Club for 25 years and is involved with the education organization Up With People. Hamel is the chair of the revenue committee for the Greater Lowell Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and supports the group's fundraising efforts.
