G. Greene Construction completes 12,000 s/f primary care department for Mass. General Hospital Waltham facility

G. Greene Construction completed a new primary care department for the Massachusetts General Hospital Waltham facility. The 12,000 s/f fit-out was retro-fitted with a registration and waiting area, nurses' station, 13 exam rooms, 6 doctors' offices, blood laboratory and a conference room. The project team, Peter Mancini and Jay Castrucci completed the job on time meeting a 3 month schedule. Their daily coordination with the building manager was critical to ensure all shut-downs and noise disturbances would not interfere with the occupants in the building. One of the challenges they faced was bringing utilities through the eye operating suite, located adjacent to the space. The area needed to be completely sealed off so as to ensure that all dust and debris would stay contained and patients and staff would remain protected throughout construction. Jonathan Hayward, MGH project manager and Kevin Neumann, principal of Steffian Bradley Architects were an essential part of the success of this project. They worked with G. Greene to ensure all issues were met with solutions in order to keep the project on time and on budget. Hayward said "I want to give accolades to the G. Greene team that worked on the MGH Primary Care project in Waltham. This team did a wonderful job in creating a beautiful project. They were all a pleasure to work with." This is one of many projects G. Greene completed as a partnership with Steffian Bradley Architects. G. Greene is fortunate to be part of the MGH team and is working on the Gray Building and Cox Building basement renovations, as well as the Bartlett 8/Extension 6 Wellman Center renovation. These projects are taking place at the MGH Boston campus.

State legislature ends session without passing PLA bill - by Joe Camilo

Massachusetts taxpayers dodged a bullet when the state Senate didn’t take up legislation passed by the House in the waning moments of the legislative session that would have made it easier for municipalities and state agencies to use union-only project labor agreements (PLAs) on construction projects.

When it comes to corporate interior spaces for both commercial and industrial projects, partnering with a design-build firm with in-house interior design services can offer clients many benefits. Ask the Electrician: How do I prepare my commercial building for a disaster?

New England’s notorious weather – from fierce winter storms to summer squalls and fall hurricanes – can leave businesses in the dark. While power outages are often blamed on storms, they can also be caused by unforeseen events like accidents or construction mishaps. While it’s impossible to prevent disasters and power outages entirely, proactive preparation can significantly minimize their impact on your commercial building.
