G. Greene Construction Company donates trucks and volunteers for hurricane relief
Allston, MA When retired Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling put out a call for help on Thursday, August 31, G. Greene Construction Company, Inc. immediately stepped up to the plate.
G. Greene learned at 10 p.m. Thursday, August 31 that Schilling’s convoy needed additional trucks and drivers for “Operation Bullpen,” a donation drive heading to Texas to deliver supplies to Hurricane Harvey victims. By 11 p.m., G. Greene had organized eight volunteer drivers and four G. Greene trucks to transport 10 tons of relief supplies to the hurricane-ravaged region. Their volunteers included Tim Connaughton, Tom Cavanaugh, Kevin Deverix, Jeff Farron, Chris Healy, Tyler Laforce, Andrew McKay and Bob Zemeitus.
At 6 a.m. Friday, September 1, the G. Greene trucks and their drivers were fueled up and en route to the Shaw’s plaza in Medfield, Mass., where each truck was loaded with donated food, water, and personal items. By noon, the G. Greene trucks and employees left Medfield and journeyed to Shreveport, Louisiana, where they received a National Guard escort into Beaumont, Texas. Upon arrival at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport, their team unloaded their trucks, sorted the donations and loaded the National Guard trucks for distribution.
The G. Greene team were overwhelmed by the hugs, graciousness and thankfulness from the National Guard. Overall, the experience was a humbling and rewarding opportunity, and will leave a lasting impression on the volunteers.
They welcomed their team home to a BBQ celebration at their Hyde Park facility on Thursday, September 7. Tim McCarthy, Boston city councilor, district 5 stopped by to thank the team for making the journey to Texas.
