Curtis of WinnDevelopment honored by Lawyers Clearinghouse

Larry Curtis, president and managing partner of WinnDevelopment, the real estate development arm of WinnCompanies, was honored at the Lawyers Clearinghouse 25th Annual Meeting for his dedication to affordable housing. For more than 25 years, Curtis has been a leader in the challenging work of building affordable housing in Massachusetts. Curtis has led a wide range of real estate development and acquisition activities throughout his career, during which he maintained a primary focus on historic rehabilitation and adaptive re-use development projects, as well as the creation of affordable housing. Curtis was recognized by the Lawyers Clearinghouse for his strong support of its mission and programs that serve the nonprofit and homeless communities in Massachusetts. In addition to his work in the development of affordable housing, he also co-founded New Lease, a non-profit based in Boston that provides a clearinghouse of affordable housing units for families staying in state-funded shelters and motels throughout Massachusetts. "It has been Winn's mission, as well as my own, to give back to the communities in which we work to create a better quality of life for our residents," said Curtis. "I am extremely honored to have been selected for this award by Lawyers Clearinghouse. It is a wonderful organization that provides essential services to those in need, and I look forward to continuing my work with them." Founded 25 years ago, Lawyers Clearinghouse harnesses the power of Massachusetts legal and business professionals to strengthen communities by providing pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations and to individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The organization is devoted to promoting the development of affordable housing, reducing homelessness and supporting non-profits in their performance of vital community development work. "Larry's efforts to strengthen communities through the creation of greater opportunities for high-quality housing have immensely benefitted the people of Massachusetts, and will continue to do so for years to come," said Benjamin B. Tymann, Lawyers Clearinghouse board president. "We are grateful for Larry and WinnDevelopment's faithful support over the years, and we are proud to recognize him for his longstanding commitment to the values that are the foundation of the Clearinghouse's mission." Curtis is a member of the board of trustees for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, as well as a member of the board of directors for the National Multi-Housing Council (NMHC) and the Citizens' Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA). He also served as the past president of the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA) in 2010 and 2011, chairman of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB) in 2006 and as a co-chair of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies' annual campaign in 2008. Curtis has received numerous awards, including the Paul E. Tsongas Award from Preservation Massachusetts. Curtis received a Bachelor's degree in architecture from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York, as well as a Master's degree in architecture and urban design from Harvard University. He is a licensed architect in Massachusetts.
