CTA Construction recognized for Excellence in Construction by ABC

CTA Construction has been named a recipient of Excellence in Construction Awards for three different projects by the Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). CTA won Green awards in the annual statewide competition's Commercial/Industrial over $5 million category for its construction of East Elementary School in Hingham and a new UMass Amherst police headquarters. In the Public Works/Environmental category, CTA won a merit award for building a new Department of Public Works facility in Weston, Mass. The DPW project was comprised of two new buildings: a vehicle equipment operations garage and an operations building. Competition judges noted the challenges involved with a structural steel frame, concrete slabs on grade, exterior metal stud walls, clerestory windows and an aluminum curtain wall. Project owner the town of Weston and architect Weston & Sampson Engineering, Inc. were recognized along with CTA as part of the project team. Merit is the second highest Excellence in Construction Award and the Green award is given for outstanding projects that are sustainable and energy-efficient. CTA is one of only 16 contractors selected as recipients of ABC's Excellence in Construction Awards. "CTA's work represents the state-of-the-art in construction," said Massachusetts ABC President Greg Beeman. "The company should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry." The award winners were determined by an independent panel of expert judges based on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, safety and other considerations. The judges were: Daniel Carson, Daniel Carson Consulting Engineering, Charles Sacre, Kleinfelder/SEA Consultants, Paul Tyrell, STV Incorporated, Jim Flanagan, FlanaConsulting. Associated Builders and Contractors is the largest construction trade association in Massachusetts, representing more than 400 construction and construction-related firms, including developers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and associates.
