CTA Construction breaks ground on new $36 million Park Avenue Elementary School: 109,067 s/f designed by Dore & Whittier Architects

CTA Construction has broken ground on a new 109,067 s/f three story elementary school for the town. Designed by Dore & Whittier Architects, the new school will accommodate PreK-12 students and replaces the existing 50+ year old Park Avenue Elementary School which had become undersized and outdated with inefficient infrastructure systems and limited handicap accessibility. The new school will have state-of-the-art learning spaces as well as special educational classrooms and include flexible spaces to support 21st Century learning. Collaborative Partners is the owner's project manager. The school construction will be completed in three phases beginning with the demolition of the upper portion of the existing building, followed by construction of the new building and then the demolition of the lower portion of the existing building once the new building is complete. Site work will include all utilities, parking lots and roadways throughout the site. The school will be a more compact, energy efficient building with many sustainable features that will support a projected 41% savings in heating and cooling costs. The project is targeting LEED Silver certification. Construction will be completed in summer 2015.
